I was fortunate to visit eHang in Guangzhou, China yesterday’. This is the #1 Advanced Air Mobility technology platform company in the world that is making autonomous electric air mobility accessible to all. It boasts a range of pilotless electric Vertical Take Off & Landing (VTOL) aircraft across use cases – aerial tourism, intra-city transport, intercity travel, logistics & emergency firefighting. In this post I share some of the insights and inspiration from my visit on the eHang innovation approach.

1. Craft a clear brand purpose & positioning

eHang is powered by a liberating purpose: “Enable safe, autonomous, and eco-friendly air mobility for everyone”. The brand’s essence is then captured in its tagline, “Limitless Sky. Boundless Future”. Such a simple yet evocative crystallisation of the brand’s vision inspires many brand-led innovations that are turbocharging business growth. And eHang is walking the brand talk. It has logged over 76,000 autonomous flights till date without any incident, underscoring their extreme commitment to safety without compromise.

2. Follow the Money

Multi-sector applications help multiply revenue streams (same platform extended to passenger AAVs, tourist vehicles, logistics drones, public media, firefighting/emergency specialists…), accelerate learning across mission profiles and help strengthen safety & autonomy datasets.

3. First can be Better

In frontier industries, regulatory first-mover advantage is priceless. eHang was the first to obtain full airworthiness certification globally for both pilotless passenger & commercial eVTOLs, several years ahead of most western rivals. It has several demo sites across several Chinese cities to create a real-world data advantage that compounds over time.

4. Keep it Simple

5. Velocity Matters
