Over at the Ideas Sandbox, Paul has posted about how TV programmes are introduced with a 30-second "elevator pitch". This pitch grabs you if you’re a new viewer, and reminds you why you love it if you’re a fan. He suggests that the same approach could be used to help you pitch your company or project, which I think is a great idea.

He has videos with the intros for famous programmes like Star Trek and the 6 Million Dollar Man: a great way to waste away 1/2 an hour and look like you’re working on your PC! My personal favourite is the A-Team:Picture_7_1

"In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit.

These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the
Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they
survive as soldiers of fortune.

If you have a problem. If no one else can help. And if you can find them. Maybe you can hire…The A-Team."

In 20 seconds you get what its all about and are drawn in. The text is full of drama.

How about also using this for brand positioning? Robert Stephens of the Geek Squad talks about how he thought about the sort of movie he wanted his brand to be, and this is why he gave it an intriguing name, rather than a technical one such as "PC Repair Team". And looking at their website, they sound like the A-Team of the PC world!

"Geek Squad 24 Hour Computer Support Task Force® is comprised of an
elite tactical unit of highly trained Agents that focus solely on
computer and network support.

network is down, your hard drive is crashing, your printer won’t print,
or you just need to get on to the Internet, we can help you.

We provide
our services wherever and whenever you need them — 24 hours a day,
seven days a week, 525,600 minutes a year."

What would the 30-second TV pitch be for your brand? Or any other good examples?
